Douglas Holmes Emerging Scholar Paper Award nominations will be open June 9 through July 28, 2026

The Student Awards and Recognition Committee is sharing this award opportunity for student and faculty awareness:

Submissions are open for the Douglas Holmes Emerging Scholar Paper Award.

The Douglas Holmes Emerging Scholars Paper Award recognizes research with potential to improve quality of life or quality of care in long term care. Eligible settings include nursing homes, hospice, assisted living, adult day services, and home and community based care. The award will be presented to the authors of the winning paper at the Gerontological Society of America Annual Scientific Meeting at the RESQCARE Interest Group Meeting.

About the award:
Students with an accepted abstract may self nominate and submit a paper during the submission period.
– Winners will give a short synopsis of their paper at the Research on Quality of Care RESQCARE Interest Group Meeting at the GSA annual meeting.
– Applicants must submit two copies of the paper, one blinded and one not, along with the abstract control ID number and required co author statement.
– Each recipient will receive a 500 dollar cash prize.
– Awardees will be recognized at the RESQCARE Interest Group Meeting.
– Registration and travel expenses are not covered.
– Eligible students should apply during the submission window June 9 to July 28, 2026.

Eligibility requirements:
– Student and early career GSA members are eligible.
– Applicants must have an accepted abstract for the GSA Annual Scientific Meeting and must submit a paper based on that abstract by the deadline.
– The paper must be original and not yet published or copyrighted.

Application period:
June 9 to July 28, 2026. Note that the abstract submission deadline was March 2026.
