Scholarships & Financial Support

Continuing students and applicants to a BSN program may apply for scholarships. Students will receive all scholarship application information via email form our scholarship team.

To apply, students must complete the online Scholarship Application form through the Wisconsin Scholarship Hub (WiSH).

ABSN

The application process for ABSN scholarships takes place once a year from mid-September through late October.

BSN@Home

The BSN@Home scholarship application process occurs twice each year, with application cycles occurring during the fall for the upcoming Spring semester and during the spring for the upcoming Fall semester.

TBSN

The TBSN scholarship application process for current TBSN students is offered once annually, from early December through mid-January. Students who have recently applied to the TBSN program may apply for TBSN scholarships during a separate annual application cycle, which runs from mid-January through the end of February.

All Scholarship awards are managed through the Wisconsin Scholarship Hub (WiSH) Communication about scholarships will occur through email, students should monitor their email for scholarship award information.

ABSN

Scholarships are awarded once for the full ABSN program. Students can expect to receive scholarship award information mid- to late-November. Scholarships are for the

BSN@Home

Scholarships are awarded per semester for the BSN@Home program, therefore students must submit a scholarship application each semester.

Students apply in the Fall can expect to receive scholarship award information mid- to late-November.

Students apply in the Spring can expect to receive scholarship award information in late-summer.

TBSN

Scholarships are awarded for one academic year(fall/spring), therefore students must submit a scholarship application each year.

Students can expect to receive scholarship award information in late-summer.

All School of Nursing scholarship recipients are required to complete an electronic student profile and submit a thank-you letter to their scholarship donor(s). Additional details and instructions will be provided by the scholarship team after awards have been processed.

Current students and applicants to the DNP program may apply for scholarships.

The application process for DNP scholarships takes place once a year in the late-fall/early-winter. To apply, students must complete the online DNP Scholarship Application form through the Wisconsin Scholarship Hub (WiSH).

Scholarship awards are made through the WISH System and will be released in late-summer.

All School of Nursing scholarship recipients are required to complete an electronic student profile and submit a thank-you letter to their scholarship donor(s). Additional details and instructions will be provided by the scholarship team after awards have been processed.

DNP students are eligible for School of Nursing graduate assistantships. Students will receive an email from Academic Affairs each spring with application information.

All graduate assistantships are assigned as a percentage appointment of a 40-hour work week. Full tuition remission and eligibility for health insurance are provided for assistantships assigned at 33.3% or higher. Assistantships also provide a number of fringe benefits. Teaching Assistants (TA) are students employed to support nursing courses with lecturing, grading papers, supervising laboratories, and leading discussion sections.

Project Assistants (PA) are students employed to assist with research, training, or other academic programs under a faculty lead.

PhD-Nursing students have priority for School of Nursing graduate assistantships. Continuing students will receive an email from Academic Affairs each spring with application information.

Research Assistants (RA) are students employed to assist with research, training, or other academic programs or projects. Research activities directly benefit the student’s course of study and are relevant to their dissertation.

Graduate Research Scholars (formerly known as Advanced Opportunity Fellowships) are awarded for qualified minority or economically disadvantaged nonminority students. To be considered, eligible applicants should contact scholarships@nursing.wisc.edu.

The Wisconsin Distinguished Graduate Fellowship is given to a student (WI residents given priority) who shows excellence in their area of research. Application is made through the School of Nursing in the spring, with other assistantship applications.

Scholarships may be available to fund expenses related to research work while in the program. A call for applications is put out through the School of Nursing each fall. Various amounts and criteria are used for these scholarship awards. Generous endowments from the Eckburg, Shapiro, Heideman and Johnson funds support awards ranging from $1,000.00 up to $5,000.00 each year.
