Nursing Research and Sponsored Programs is pleased to highlight this month’s Featured Publication by Dr. Teri Pipe, PhD, RN!
As newer nurses step into roles being vacated by experienced nurse leaders, there is an imperative to ensure they are prepared to lead. One-size-fits-all approaches to nurse leadership training are insufficient for implementation in complex healthcare organizations. Dr. Pipe and colleagues developed “Nursing Leadership from the Inside Out,” an evidence-based workshop delivered within the cultural context of each organization. It focuses on both team and individual level development, using experiential learning to practice and reflect on real-world experiences. This article describes the program and results of pilot work with hospitals and healthcare organizations. Pilot results indicate a positive impact on nurse well-being, sense of belonging, development of leadership skills, and intent to stay.
