NRSP November Featured Publication – Dean Linda Scott

Nursing Research and Sponsored Programs is honored to feature Dean Emerit Linda D. Scott, PhD, RN, NEA-BC, FADLN, FNAP, FAAN, for the November newsletter’s Featured Publication.

“Nursing science is patient care research. Simple, clear, and concise.” Dean Emerit Scott, in her role as President of the American Academy of Nursing, published five articles in Nursing Outlook this year reflecting on nursing leadership and nursing science. It’s just one of the ways Dr. Scott influenced the world beyond these walls. In the article, “Just one fact: The continued quest to sustain nursing science,” she reflects on the historical and current importance of NINR and suggests we can all play a role in ensuring its future by changing the language we use to communicate nursing science. “We do not have to change or amend the sophistication that nursing science has become…Yet, for patients and policymakers we must use different language, because they are a different audience. They must understand that without our science, patient care will not improve, putting them and their loved one’s health at risk.” As the SON revises our research signature areas and considers how we communicate about our research impact, Dr. Scott’s important words continue to guide us.
