Nursing Research and Sponsored Programs is pleased to highlight this past month’s Featured Publication from new faculty members Dr. Michelle Chui, PhD, MS, PharmD, and Research Services Manager Jamie Stone!
Welcome to the SON, Dr. Chui and Research Service Manager Jamie Stone! Dr. Chui’s current AHRQ study focuses on engineering resilient community pharmacies to safely provide medications to people with multiple chronic conditions. This article describes their research protocol for creating and evaluating a Medication Safety Map [MedSafeMap] for pharmacy use in chronic care management. Dr. Chui, Study Manager Stone, and their interdisciplinary team are working with three pilot organizations, and a simulation site, to design and test MedSafeMap in a way that recognizes the high workload volume and complexity in pharmacies. MedSafeMap aims to engage health care providers, patients and families in chronic care through behavior modeling, information support, cognitive aides, collaboration support, role clarity, and cross training components. This work is part of the AHRQ-funded Patient Safety Learning Labs initiative.
