NRSP February Featured Publication – Dr. Sheng

Nursing Research and Sponsored Programs is pleased to highlight the Featured Publication from our February Newsletter! This month’s Featured Publication is authored by Dr. Jingxi Sheng.

There is significant opportunity to increase Chinese American women’s adherence to recommended physical activity guidelines. Dr. Sheng and colleagues used interviews and thematic analysis to identify factors related to this population’s engagement in physical activity. Desire to stay healthy, a sense of achievement, and social network facilitation were facilitators. Barriers included satisfaction with weight and not seeing a need for physical activity, and prioritizing family needs.  The study also explored how behaviors changed during the COVID-19 pandemic. Dr. Sheng’s novel study, which looks at one subgroup of the largest Asian American population, could inform tailored interventions that promote physical activity and reduce health risks.
