Please see the following from the Graduate School on the new Certificate in Higher Education Teaching and Learning:
I am pleased to announce a new professional development offering from the Graduate School, which prepares graduate students to become inclusive, evidence-based educators within their classrooms, communities, and research spaces, and positions them to be even stronger candidates for faculty careers and other academic roles.
The Graduate/Professional Certificate in Higher Education Teaching and Learning from the Delta Program in the Graduate School will provide students with the pedagogical tools to become more effective and inclusive educators in the college classroom, in undergrad research mentoring, in the community, and beyond.
With UW–Madison being among the nation’s top faculty-producing institutions, this new certificate is an exciting opportunity to advance the Wisconsin Idea through future faculty trained in inclusive, evidence-based teaching and learning.
The 9-credit certificate can be used to satisfy the doctoral breadth requirement, similar to completing a doctoral minor, and should be completed before achieving dissertator status. Currently, the certificate is best suited for students in the biological, physical, and social sciences. Additional coursework options for students in the arts and humanities are planned.
I urge you to share this exciting new opportunity with your graduate students by:
- pointing them to a recent news release describing the benefits of the certificate
- referring them to the Graduate Guide for requirements and application instructions
- posting or distributing certificate flyers
- forwarding this email to them
Additionally, since completion of the certificate is limited to pre-dissertators, the Delta Program recently developed a no-cost digital badge, which emphasizes developing teaching and learning skills within real-world contexts and support success in a future faculty career. Please encourage dissertators or postdocs to learn more about the Delta Teaching & Learning Practitioner Badge.
