Research study participation opportunity for undergraduate students

The School of Nursing has been asked by a PhD student from Marquette University to share an opportunity to participate in a research study titled: Student Described Importance of Nurse Educator Caring Actions in Various Class Settings.

Nurse educator caring actions are described as actions that promote a student sense of educator presence, empathy, student/educator relationship, and educator engagement. These actions have been shown to facilitate student engagement, feelings of community, and student satisfaction within courses. The purpose of this study aims to compare the importance of known student perceived nurse educator caring actions between in person, online synchronous, online asynchronous, and blended class settings, describe how students perceive the specific caring actions respective to these class settings, and the student’s role within these caring actions. Data collected will include electronic survey responses, demographic information, and a voluntary opportunity to participate in focus group interviews to further discuss caring behaviors should the participant choose. This study is considered minimal risk and has been approved exempt by Marquette University IRB #4584.

It is not an expectation that you participate in this study. This is something you can do if you wish. Participation involves completing an online anonymous survey that is expected to take approximately  5-20 minutes to complete. The last question of the survey has a link to a separate, unlinked page (to ensure anonymity, it’s completely voluntary, and is not required) to provide contact information to participate in optional focus group interviews to better explain details regarding the results of the survey. The focus group interviews would be around an hour, but this is separate from the survey and is not required as a part of survey participation.

Faculty and leaders at the UW-Madison School of Nursing will not know who decides to participate.

If you are interested in participating, the survey is available here:
