African Americans experience the highest risk for Alzheimer’s disease, and biomarkers obtained through lumbar punctures are among the most accurate ways to identify those as risk and monitor treatment effects. So how can we increase African American participation in biomarker research? Dr. Passmore and colleagues looked at ways to increase African Americans’ acceptance of lumbar puncture research procedures. They found study transparency and return of research results to be the strongest drivers of willingness to participate. Also desirable was research team diversity and incentives as a recognition of participant contribution.
