Nominate for the new Canary Savage Girardeau Award for Health Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion

The Canary Savage Girardeau Award for Health Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion will recognize a current student, alumnus, faculty, staff, or community partner for notable work and responsive advocacy to health equity, diversity, and inclusion. This link provides more information and a link to nominate a recipient.

This year, the School of Nursing is launching this recognition that reflects our commitment to reducing health disparities and improving health for all. The award is named in honor of Canary Savage Girardeau, Cert ’55, who is the School’s first African American graduate. For 68 (and counting) years as a public health nurse, Canary has conducted health justice and equity outreach and programming in Washington, D.C.’s underserved communities. In 2020, she was selected as the Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award recipient by our Nursing Alumni Organization.

The nomination period for the inaugural award will open on May 1st and will remain open until July 1st. Our first recipient will be awarded in October 2023 as a part of another planned SoN event.

Thank you for considering a nomination.
