Seeking Volunteers for the Latino Youth Summit on March 27 & 28

The Latino Youth Summit Planning Committee is seeking volunteers for this years Latino Youth Summit (LYS), which will be hosted on UW-Madison’s campus on March 27 & 28. Sessions will take place in the Education Building and Biotech Center. The Committee is seeking student leaders as volunteers to help create a welcoming environment for the youth throughout the course of the summit.

The 2023 LYS theme is STEAM Exploration. Current Latinx 7th and 8th-grade students from southern Wisconsin are invited to participate in this free, two-day event. A primary objective of the conference is to prepare students for their transition from middle school to high school and beyond to college and higher education endeavors. This conference will provide guidance, resources, and support through culturally relevant workshops, presentations, and additional opportunities to explore majors and career paths within diverse STEAM fields.

The youth will be able to explore and integrate into the college life experience. These two days will be full of exciting new experiences and learning opportunities. The schedule is filled with innovative workshops and interactive activities with UW faculty and Madison community members.

The LYS Planning Committee needs volunteers for any amount of time on each day. Volunteers will be provided a t-shirt and meal (if your shift overlaps with meal times). Volunteer needs include:

  • Greet students upon arrival
  • Facilitate Registration
  • Lead student groups from session to session and meals
  • Participate in workshops and activities (ice breakers, leadership activities)
  • Student management during the event
