The Critical Language Scholarship is a US State Department funded program that offers a fully funded 8-10 week language and cultural immersion program every summer in 14 different languages: Arabic, Azerbaijani, Bangla, Chinese, Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Persian, Portuguese, Russian, Swahili, Turkish, and Urdu.
Complete details on the program are available on the CLS website at https://clscholarship.org/ as well as the UW-Madison’s CLS webpage: https://iris.wisc.edu/funding/students/cls/. Eligibility requirements can be found here.
The deadline for 2023 applications is 7pm CST on Tuesday, November 15, 2022.
This is a direct application program meaning there is no campus review process, but the IRIS Awards Office is here to support and assist all interested UW-Madison applicants. If you have questions you can’t answer on the website or want another set of eyes on your CLS essays, feel free to reach out at awards@iris.wisc.edu
