Preventing Pressure Injuries in Patients with Dark Skin – October CARE Connections

Read how one Doctor of Nursing Practice student improved practice and developed educational materials that are being disseminated nationally, in the October 2022 issue of CARE Connections, the monthly newsletter of the SoN’s Center for Aging Research and Education. Here’s an excerpt:

“She had anecdotal examples of patients whose pressure injuries we noticed too late. She pointed out that we don’t really know how bad the situation is, because we don’t stratify our data by skin tone. So, the data can’t tell us if there are disparities based on the color of patients’ skin.”

This month’s CARE Connections also includes a profile of CARE Affiliate Jillian Bodden Hoenisch, DNP, AGPCNP-BC, APNP; and news and upcoming events related to older adult health and well-being, including the 3rd Annual Aging Well Conference.
