COURSE DESCRIPTION: The NIH Helping End Addiction Long-Term (HEAL) initiative is an ongoing effort to speed scientific solutions to stem the national opioid public health crisis. A critical issue addressed by the HEAL initiative is improving nonpharmacologic care for persons with chronic pain. The goal of this presentation is to discuss the role of physical therapy in the nonpharmacologic management of chronic pain, and present ongoing research investigating strategies to optimize the benefits of physical therapy for persons with chronic pain.
SPEAKER BIO: Dr. Julie Fritz, PT, PhD, FAPTA is a Distinguished Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy and Athletic Training, Associate Dean for Research in the College of Health at the University of Utah in the United States and Adjunct Professor in Orthopedic Surgery. Her research has focused on clinical trials and observational studies examining treatments for patients with low back pain and their associated costs. She has authored over 150 peer-reviewed publication on these topics. Her research has been funded by the National Institutes of Health, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality and the Department of Defense in the United States.
