UW Health is governed by the UW Hospitals and Clinics Authority and partners with UW School of Medicine and Public Health to fulfill their patient care, research, education and community service missions.
Our UW Health Nurse Residency Program is the only way we hire new graduate nurses, otherwise to be hired you need one (1) year of RN experience.
UW Health participates in the Vizient/American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) Nurse Residency Program. This prestigious program is part of a national initiative developed by leaders in the nursing profession across the country and is recognized as an exemplary program by the Magnet® Commission. It is a 12-month program designed to help nurses move confidently into practice following graduation from a baccalaureate program. Our Nurse Residency Program at UW Health is one of only 29 Nurse Residency Programs accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.
At UW Health, the art of nursing involves establishing relationships with patients through compassionate, empathetic care. Healing occurs by meeting patients’ needs – including consideration for their mind, body and spirit. The science of nursing is replete with discovery through scientific research, deploying evidence-based practices and application of theoretical frameworks to practice. The intersection of art and science of nursing is critical to providing excellent patient-centered care.
UW Health Nurse Residents work through a series of learning and work experiences as they transition into their first professional nursing position in a UW Health patient care setting.
