Supporting Direct Care Staff – May CARE Connections

Direct care workers meet the daily needs of older adults in many settings. Yet most have limited access to educational opportunities.

Read the May issue of CARE Connections, the monthly newsletter of the School of Nursing’s Center for Aging Research and Education, to learn how CARE’s free conferences for direct care workers are making a difference. Here’s an excerpt:

One participant said the most useful thing she learned was how to “put myself in patients’ shoes, especially people with impairments and those living with dementia.” Another said she learned how to “be a voice for my residents that don’t have one.”

This month’s CARE Connections also includes a profile of CARE Affiliate Tracy Schroepfer, information about workshops for family caregivers and respite care providers, plus news and upcoming events relevant to older adult health.
